Frequently Asked Questions

SlipSlate is software for marinas on a flat subscription. We never take a percentage of your rent. Payments are optional and off by default; if you turn them on, they run on your own Stripe account. You can export your records, documents and history at any time, in standard formats. The United States and Canada come first.

Do I have to use your payments?+

No. Payments are optional and off by default. If you turn them on, they run on your own Stripe account. Stripe's fees apply and are shown on each payment. We never store card or bank numbers.

Do you take a percentage of rent?+

No; flat subscription. We never take a percentage of your rent.

Does it replace my accounting software or POS?+

No; export usage and agreement data to it, and keep your own POS.

How long does setup take?+

Target: working map in five business days from complete data.

Can I import from a spreadsheet or my current software?+

Yes: CSV or XLSX, with a preview, an exceptions list and reconciliation totals against your old system. An import batch can be undone before staff edit its records. You can import it yourself from the Preview your data page, or have us do it.

What if my data is messy?+

Preview and exceptions list; nothing silently dropped or "fixed."

Can I move mid-season?+

Yes. See the guide on moving off spreadsheets or legacy systems.

Can I get my data out?+

Yes. Export your records, documents and history at any time, in standard formats. If you cancel, you get a full export.

Who can see my data?+

Role-based staff access, each marina's data kept separate from every other marina's, a second sign-in step (authenticator app) for owner accounts, and an audit history of who made each change and how, including entries made through chat.

Does it work on a tablet or phone?+

Yes. Meter readings, including a photo of the meter, work on a phone, and Dock Walk works from your phone in your own chat app. The map editor is best on a tablet or desktop.

Do you do utility billing?+

Readings and usage export to your billing system.

Does it issue invoices and handle taxes?+

Yes, if you turn on invoicing. Invoices can carry tax lines from configurable tax components and treatments, and credit notes are supported. Tax reports are provided for your accountant. SlipSlate does not give tax advice, so have your accountant confirm your tax setup.

How does Stripe work with SlipSlate?+

If you turn on payments, you connect your own Stripe account. Customers pay through a Stripe payment link or hosted checkout, and each payment is recorded in the ledger with its fee shown. We never store card or bank numbers.

Does it email customers?+

Yes. SlipSlate can email customers notices, such as renewal dates and rates, and invoices.

Can customers see their account online?+

Yes, through the customer portal: statements and documents, and paying an invoice when payments are turned on.

What is Dock Walk?+

Dock Walk is for walking the docks. Staff speak or photograph a reading in their own chat app. Works with Claude and Gemini; ChatGPT is coming soon. Every reading is read back before it is saved, and you confirm it. SlipSlate's own checks run on every entry. Flagged readings are never saved as accepted. Every change shows who made it and how. An assistant in your own chat app enters records only after staff confirm. SlipSlate receives the values you confirm and a short transcript snippet for the audit history.

Is the map a navigation chart?+

No, an operational diagram. Length, beam, and draft data come from you; it is not a navigation guarantee.

Which countries?+

United States and Canada first. Currency, units and dates are set for each marina.

Pricing?+
