Dock Walk Staff Guide

This printable guide is for dock staff using SlipSlate to run a Dock Walk from their own chat app, Claude or Gemini. Connect the SlipSlate connector, then start the route, check each slip's vessel, confirm each meter reading and flag any problem for the exceptions queue. Ask for the walk summary at the end.

Print this page and keep it on the dock.

Before your first walk

On the dock

  1. Start your walk and ask for the dock route.
  2. At each slip, check that the vessel there is the one assigned to it. If it is not, flag it.
  3. Speak or photograph the meter reading.
  4. Check the reading SlipSlate reads back to you against the meter. Confirm it, or correct it.
  5. Flag any problem you find. It goes to the exceptions queue, where a person decides what to do.
  6. At the end of the route, ask for the walk summary.

How it stays safe

You confirm every reading before it is saved. SlipSlate's own checks run on every entry. Flagged readings are never saved as accepted. Every change shows who made it and how.

Good habits

  • Do not confirm a reading you have not read off the meter.
  • Readings are records, not bills. Utility billing depends on local rules.
